AWLO Rivers State Chapter Relaunched with Renewed Vision for Women’s Leadership

The Rivers State chapter of the African Women in Leadership Organisation has been officially relaunched, marking a renewed effort to strengthen women’s leadership, mentorship, and professional networks within the state.

The relaunch ceremony took place in Port Harcourt and brought together government representatives, business leaders, professionals, and advocates for women’s empowerment. The gathering signaled a new phase for the organisation’s work in Rivers State, with a focus on expanding opportunities for women to grow, collaborate, and take on leadership roles across sectors.

A major highlight of the event was the recognition of Ipalibo Harry Banigo, who was honoured as AWLO Life Patroness. The recognition celebrated her long-standing contributions to governance, public service, and her continued advocacy for women’s advancement in leadership and public life.

During the ceremony, Banigo was also unveiled as the Face of the 2026 AWLO Magazine, a publication that highlights the achievements and impact of women leaders across Africa.

The event drew support from key government figures, demonstrating growing institutional backing for initiatives that promote women’s participation in leadership and decision-making spaces. Among those represented were Oluremi Tinubu, Siminalayi Fubara, and Valerie Fubara. Representing them at the event was the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Nma Odu.

In recognition of the role men play in supporting gender equality, several individuals were also honoured as AWLO HeForShe Champions. Those recognised included Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Chief Nabil Saleh, Dr. Emmanuel Emefienim, and Ambassador Clinton Fubara Snr., acknowledging their contributions toward advancing women’s empowerment and inclusive leadership.

Speaking at the event, Elizabeth Ekole encouraged women to embrace resilience, collaboration, and purposeful leadership. She highlighted the importance of building strong support systems and professional networks that help women thrive in governance, business, and community development.

Founder and Global President of AWLO, Elisha Attai, described the relaunch as an important step in strengthening the organisation’s presence in Rivers State. He noted that the revitalised chapter will focus on leadership development, mentorship opportunities, and strategic partnerships aimed at positioning more women for influence and impact.

The ceremony concluded with the induction of new members into the AWLO community, reinforcing the organisation’s mission of building a strong network of women leaders committed to driving progress and sustainable development across Africa. ✨
