NGO distributes educational materials to vulnerable schoolgirls in Osun

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Olabode Youth and Women Initiatives (OYAWIN), on Thursday distributed educational materials to 250 vulnerable primary schoolgirls across communities in Osun State.

The beneficiaries, drawn from schools in Ikire, Apomu and Ikoyi in Isokan and Irewole Local Government Areas, received school bags, sandals, uniforms, textbooks, and writing materials as part of efforts to reduce the financial burdens that keep many girls out of school.

Speaking at the event held in Ikoyi, the Executive Director of OYAWIN, Mr. Moroof Olabode, said the intervention was implemented under the organisation’s “Right to Be a Girl” initiative, supported by global development partner Mundo Cooperante. He explained that the project seeks to address major barriers to girls’ education and contribute to ending child marriage in the communities.

Olabode emphasised that education remains one of the strongest tools for preventing early marriage and improving the wellbeing of girls.

“Today’s activity is not merely the distribution of bags, sandals, books and writing materials. It is a clear statement of support for the rights, education and future of every girl in these communities,”
he said.
“Through this intervention, we reaffirm that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and achieve her full potential. We acknowledge the unwavering support of our global partner, Mundo Cooperante, whose commitment continues to open doors of opportunity for girls worldwide.”

Addressing the girls, Olabode encouraged them to stay committed to their education and believe in the value of their dreams.

He also announced that OYAWIN would return in the coming weeks to provide chairs and tables for all 250 beneficiaries and pay their school fees as part of ongoing efforts to remove financial obstacles hindering girls’ access to education.

Speaking on behalf of school principals, Mrs. Olukemi Omotoso appreciated the gesture, describing it as timely support for families facing economic hardship. She urged parents to complement the NGO’s efforts by actively supporting their children’s learning and wellbeing.
